Sumter County Council to discuss dam project

Sumter County Public Works/Solid Waste Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. today in County Council Conference Room to receive an update on the Second Mill Dam project; and to receive information about abandoning maintenance duties for Ohana Circle, Forest Drive Cul-De-Sac, a portion of Winston Road, a portion of Earle Street and Alpenglow Court.

Council members Gene Baten, Artie Baker and Chris Sumpter serve on this committee.

Sumter County Forfeited Land Commission will meet at 5 p.m. today in County Council Conference Room to discuss contractual matters for 10 properties during an executive session.

All members of Sumter County Council are members of the Forfeited Land Commission.

Sumter County Council will hold a special called meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in County Council Chambers to receive information about the $2.5 million capital bond it approved in June to fund multiple purchases and projects, mainly for county departments.

Council will also receive an update on Robert's Rules of Order, which pertains to council's procedures regarding recusals during meetings.

Later, council will receive a legal briefing and discuss an employment matter during an executive session.

This meeting will begin immediately after the forfeited land commission meeting, which is scheduled for 5 p.m., if it ends early.

Sumter County Council will meet at 6 p.m. today in County Council Chambers, third floor of Sumter County Administration Building, 13 E. Canal St., to consider:

- Third reading of an ordinance to amend a planned development for property at 350 Myrtle Beach Highway specifically for the addition of used motor vehicle parts as a permitted use on a 9.95-acre portion of a 47-acre parcel;

- Second reading of an ordinance to approve an intergovernmental loan agreement with South Carolina Public Service Authority, to be secured by a mortgage, to construct an economic development building and adjoining building pad on 20 acres at the corner of North Wise Drive and Jefferson Road to encourage a manufacturer to locate on the site;

- First reading of an ordinance to amend portions of the county's flood damage prevention ordinance to adopt Wateree Watershed Maps and Flood Insurance Study revisions that will become effective on Sept. 28. This proposed amendment will also make corrections and clarifications noted in the 2017 South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Community Assistance Visit and the Community Rating System Cycle Visit; and

- First reading of five individual ordinances to authorize the transfer of five separate streets to the adjoining property owners, in title only: Ohana Circle, Forest Drive Cul-De-Sac, Winston Road, Earle Street and Alpenglow Court.
