Sumter historic committee to consider demolition of downtown building

Sumter City-County Historic Preservation Design Review Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in City Council Chambers, fourth floor of Sumter Opera House, 21 N. Main St., to consider approval for:

- The demolition of a structure, formerly a realty office, at 13 E. Canal St., next to the Sumter County Administration Building;

- The construction of a three-story addition to the Sumter County Administration Building at 13 E. Canal St.;

- Exterior renovations to property in the 100 block of North Main Street - the removal of brick to allow the installation of aluminum-clad window units at the front and rear of the structure, new paint, a new canvas awning, the removal of paint on brick, and two new iron balconies; and

- Exterior renovations to property in the 400 block of West Hampton Avenue which will include the demolition of a structure at the rear of the property, removal of existing screen panels on the rear porch of the structure and roof repairs with architectural-type shingles.
