Attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime are the charges Byron Lyons is facing after he turned himself in to county authorities Thursday morning.

The 25-year-old was wanted for allegedly shooting a teen on River Birch Drive earlier this week.

Sumter County Sheriff's Office reported Lyons allegedly shot the victim, 18, on Monday evening.

Prior to the shooting, residents called deputies during a fight in the same area which ended before they arrived about 9 p.m.

After deputies left, the victim stopped by a residence when Lyons allegedly pulled up in a vehicle, got out and fired multiple shots before fleeing.

Witnesses told investigators Lyons returned and fired more shots toward the victim as bystanders tended to the teen. No one was struck, states the release.

The victim was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey to undergo surgery.

Lyons surrendered at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center without incident.

He is scheduled to have a first appearance hearing at 2 p.m. on Friday at the detention center, 1250 Winkles Road in Sumter.
