Sumter Police need help identifying suspect in vehicle break-ins

Sumter Police Department is working to identify an individual captured on video surveillance, who could be connected to several reported break-ins of unlocked vehicles Wednesday night in the Hunters Crossing subdivision, according to a news release from Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police.

Sumter Police reminds residents to always remove valuables – wallets, purses, firearms, cash/financial cards, electronic devices and cords – from their vehicles and to keep their vehicle doors locked at all times.

Officers urge residents to call police immediately if suspicious activity is observed. If possible, provide a description of persons or vehicles including clothing, estimated height and weight, hairstyle, tattoos, etc., or make, model and color of vehicles that aren’t normally in the area.
If you have a home surveillance system and receive a video alert that shows suspicious activity, notify police immediately by dialing 911. Residents in the City of Sumter can also call the non-emergency number at (803) 436-2700.
