Sumter United Ministries still in need of school supplies

Sumter United Ministries is still in need of school supplies to meet its Gear Up for Learning goal this year.

Mark Champagne, executive director of the organization, said there is still a great need for pens and primary writing pads for preschool and kindergarten students.

Other needed supplies include: folders with pockets, folders with clasps, wide ruled paper, college ruled paper and composition notebooks.

Cash donations can also be given through the organization's website, sumterunitedministries.org, if a donor does not have the time to go to the store, Champagne said. Just make the donation out to Gear Up for Learning in the special instructions section and the money will only be used for this project, he said.

School supplies can be delivered to Sumter United Ministries' main office at 36 Artillery Drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday or at First Baptist Church, 107 E Liberty St., from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday.

Though the supplies will be given to Sumter School District on Friday, all late submissions will make it to their destinations, Champagne said.
