A 18-year-old male was shot in a parking lot southeast of downtown Sumter at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and was airlifted to a Columbia hospital, officials said.
The incident occurred near the corner of Hauser Street and David Court, according to the Sumter Police Department.
"According to witnesses, the teen was seen talking with individuals in a mid- to large-sized vehicle when they heard gunfire and then saw the vehicle speed off toward Brooklyn Street," Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the department, in a news release.
The teen was last known to be in stable condition after sustaining injuries from more than one gunshot wound.
