ALCOLU - Thelma Inez Burke Black, 91, widow of Jack Holt Black, died on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born on Sept. 24, 1927, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Burke and Mattie Amelia Geddings Burke. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning. She was a retired registered nurse, graduating from Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing.

She is survived by a son, Richard Arthur Black (Chieko) of Ponte Vedra, Florida; one granddaughter, Rebecca Ashley Burke Black of Ponte Vedra; three grandsons, Cameron Atticus Black of Ponte Vedra, Jack Holt Black III of Columbia and George Boyd Black (Emily) of Atlanta; two sisters, Jennie DuRant of Manning and Amelia Alderman (Robert) of Daleville, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jack Holt Black Jr.; four brothers; and three sisters.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sumter Cemetery with visitation at the grave site.

The family requests memorials be made to the Presbyterian Church at Manning, P.O. Box 207, Manning, SC 29102.
