Funeral services for Thomas Bell Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Scott's Branch Middle/High School, 9253 Alex Harvin Highway, Summerton, with the Rev. Alonza Washington of Westminster Presbyterian Church (USA), presiding, and the Rev. Dr. Larry Hill, eulogist. Interment will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Alcolu.
The public may view from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Scott's Branch High School until the hour of service.
Thomas Bell, known as "Coach Bell," transitioned on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Stamford, Connecticut, he was a son of Vashti Davis and the late Thomas Bell Sr. Mr. Bell attended Westminster Presbyterian Church (USA). He was joined in marriage to Stacy Huggins and they were blessed with four children. Thomas was a graduate of Manning High School in 1985; a 1990 graduate of South Carolina State College and completed graduate studies at Grand Canyon University, Arizona.
Mr. Bell began his career as an educator with the Williamsburg School District at Kingstree High School in 1996; Clarendon School District Two, Manning High, Clarendon School District One; and Scott's Branch High School from 2001 to present. During his tenure in Clarendon One, Thomas served as an assistant principal, principal, special education teacher, athletic director and coach.
In addition to his late father, Thomas Sr., he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lesley Mungo and Karen Jones.
Survivors include his loving wife, Stacy Huggins Bell; four children, Jabril, Imani, Quadri and Staclyn; his devoted mother, Vashti Davis; and a grandson, Jamarion Bell, all of Manning; brothers, Dontae Bell and Marc Wilder of Tampa, Florida; sister, Tamela (Eric) Edwards of Norwalk, Connecticut; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
