Members of the Class of 2019 at Thomas Sumter Academy had the opportunity to attend Palmetto State this summer. Girls State delegates were nominated by TSA and sponsored by The Auxiliary American Legion: Kenzie MacQueen, Riley Delavan, Emily Jackson and Karin Brannon. The Palmetto Boys State delegates were nominated by TSA and sponsored by American Legion Post 175: Ed Lee, Tyler Millwod, Mason Warren and Jarret Butzer.

American Legion Boys State teaches students about the operation of local, county and state government. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs. The Girls State program strives to develop leadership and pride in American citizens; educates citizens about the U.S. system of government; instills an understanding of American traditions; and stimulates a desire to maintain the democratic government processes.
