MOUNT PLEASANT - Julie Catherine Townes and John Tyler Potter were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2018, at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Mark Townes of Sumter and the granddaughter of Mrs. Chiquitta S. Boyles, the late Mary V. Boyles and the late John L. Boyles, all of Kingsport, Tennessee, Mrs. Elsie C. Beasley and the late Mr. Thomas L. Beasley of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Mr. Arthur R. Townes of Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Wilson Hall, attended The College of Charleston and graduated from Trident Technical College with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. She is employed by Trident General Dentistry in Charleston.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dwight Potter of Charleston and the grandson of Mrs. Georgia Potter and late Mr. Ernest K. Potter of London, Kentucky, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James P. Johnson of Berea, Kentucky. He graduated from Wando High School, attended Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated from Tri-County Technical College with an Associate Degree in Business Management. He is employed by the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission.

The Rev. Dr. Edward A. McLeod Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Daniel W. Massie officiated at the ceremony.

Music was provided by Olivia Hall, violinist; Bill Nuttall, piper; and Jason Pedeaux, organist.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an Ann Barge designer gown of ivory embroidered lace and clear beading featuring a gazar A-line skirt with banded hem, a low V-neck bodice, an open back and lace cap sleeves. She also wore her mother and aunt's cathedral-length veil and carried a bouquet of pink and white garden roses, spray roses, ranunculus, stock and lisianthus.

Whitney Elizabeth Townes, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Ella Sinclair Orvin and Bailey Kay Smoak, niece of the bridegroom, served as junior bridesmaids. Dorothy Fellows Layton served as flower girl.

The bridegroom's father served as best man. Ushers were Davis Morehead Crosby, John William Martin, Russ Brayden Newton and Patrick John Townes, brother of the bride. James Simons Layton served as ring bearer.

Also participating were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ernest Mauney, aunt and uncle of the bride.

The bride's parents held the reception at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant.

The bridegroom's parents held the rehearsal party at Dunes West Golf and River Club.

The couple resides in Charleston.
