TSA volleyball now 10-0

DALZELL - The Thomas Sumter Academy varsity volleyball team swept Williamsburg Academy on Wednesday by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15.

Taja Hunley led the Lady Generals with 20 kills. Anita Cookey-Gam added 15 kills, while Karleigh Young and Carmen Silvester added four kills each.

Josie Reed set 20 assists and Sydney Daniel set 18 for TSA, who improved to 10-0 and will travel to Palmetto Christian today.

Carolina Forest 3

Sumter 1

Sumter dropped a Region VI-5A match to Carolina Forest 3-1 on Wednesday at the SHS gymnasium.

Game scores were 25-21, 21-15, 25-8 and 25-20 in favor of the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Gamecocks are now 6-4 on the year and 0-2 in region play and will travel to West Florence today.

Crestwood 3

Lakewood 1

Crestwood defeated rival Lakewood 3-1 on Tuesday at The Castle by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-16.

For the Lady Gators, Emily McDonald had five aces, two kills and six assists. Ariana Jackson had six kills and an ace and Rachell Harglerode had 10 assists.

Amiyah Pickney finished with four aces and five kills for LHS, while Taylor McPhail had two aces and three kills.

Lakewood travels to Wilson today.

VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY

Sumter sweeps Lakewood meet

Sumter High School's boys and girls cross country teams each finished in first place at a 3-team meet with Crestwood and Lakewood on Wednesday at J. Frank Baker Stadium.

Sumter's boys finished with 15 points while Lakewood was second with 61. The Knights did not have enough runners to qualify in the team score.

Brandon Poston led the way for the Gamecocks with a time of 17:48.

On the girls side, Sumter again won with 15 points followed by Lakewood with 51 and Crestwood with 78.

Lorien Clark paced the Lady Gamecocks with a time of 23:24.

VARSITY GIRLS TENNIS

Wilson Hall 8

Laurence Manning 1

Wilson Hall improved to 6-0 with an 8-1 victory over Laurence Manning Academy on Wednesday at Palmetto Tennis Center.

The Lady Barons will play Pee Dee Academy today in Florence.
