A home was destroyed in a fire Monday morning, displacing three adults and one child in Wedgefield.

The Sumter Fire Department responded to a property on S.C. 261 South just before 7 a.m., where a single-wide mobile home was burning, according to an incident report. Firefighters found there had been an electrical short behind the dryer, starting the blaze at the appliance before spreading throughout the kitchen and living room.

About $15,000 in damage to the structure and $5,000 worth of contents in the home were reported lost. Nothing was reported to have been saved.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide the residents with assistance.
