Willie "Bubba" Fleming Jr. was born on Nov. 2, 1941, in Lake City, to the late Willie and Ada English Fleming. He attended the Florence County Public Schools in Lake City.

He started working for Georgia-Pacific, VB Williams and Korn Furniture Co. throughout his early years of life. Willie retired working at the tender age of 65 from Korn Furniture as a bed clamp operator. He distinguished himself as a Christian at the age of 12 and united with Oak Grove AME Church, where he was baptized and remained a member throughout his life.

He met his beautiful wife, Pearlie Mae Burgess Fleming, in his 20s and to this union, three children were born. Willie was a very loving husband, father, relative and friend. He had a wonderful smile and loved people. Many of his friends called him "Tall."

On Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, Willie was called to eternal rest at Palmetto Health Tuomey, due to an ongoing illness.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Pearlie Mae Fleming; a daughter, May Frances Fleming; two sons, Donnie R. (Felicia) Fleming and Lonnie J. (Jacklin) Fleming; one sister, Ada Mae (James) Epps; two brothers, Leroy Fleming and William (Janie) Fleming; one granddaughter, Deborah E. Fleming; one grandson, Broderick (Jessica) Clinkscales; three great-grandchildren, Braylyn Clinkscales, Marcel Simon and Truth Dunham; sisters-in-law, Elsie Fleming, Janie Lee Fleming, Leloa (Charles) Williams, Lou Angela (Harvey) Woodruff and Annie R. Burgess; brothers-in-law, Joe (Willa Dean) Burgess and Wilbert Burgess; one aunt, Annie Mae Shaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willie and Ada Fleming; paternal grandparents, Jessie and Elizabeth Fleming Jr.; maternal grandparents, John (Minnie) English; and brothers, John Westly Persow, Author Eugene, James, Bennie and Robert Fleming.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Fleming will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Friday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Oak Grove AME Church, 271 Burnt Branch Road, Olanta, SC 29114 with the Rev. Shernard Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Old McFadden Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. daily at the home, 1510 Illery Road, Sumter.
