World Day of Prayer service planned by Sumter women's group

Church Women United of the Sumter Area is inviting the public to observe World Day of Prayer on Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church.

The service, themed "all God's creation is very good," will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the church at 720 Broad St.

Stories from women of Suriname in South America will be shared regarding the protection and care of the environment, Lois Parsons said.

"These Christian women from Suriname lift up their voices to remind us that we are caretakers of God's creation," Parsons said. "They bring to our attention the urgent need for caring at a time when more than 180 countries have signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change."
