The YAS Spartans won the Pee Wee DIII state championship by beating the Swansea Cowboys 26-4 at the Fairfield Central High School field. The Spartans also won the Junior Pee Wee DIII title by beating the Fort Jackson Falcons 33-13.
The YAS Spartans Mitey Mite team lost to the Capital City Ravens 21-0 in the championship contest.
The YAS Junior Pee Wee DIII team, which is 6-4 on the season, will play Mid-South Region championship on Saturday at Bolden Stadium in Columbia.
The 7-2 Pee Wee DIII Spartans have earned a berth in the Pop Warner National Championship to be played at Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 4-8.
The PW DIII Spartans will also play in the region championship game on Nov. 25 in Virginia Beach, Va.
CHURCH LEAGUE REGISTRATION ENDS SUNDAY
Registration for the Sumter Family YMCA’s Church League Basketball program ends on Sunday. There are leagues for both boys and girls ages 5-15. The entry fee is $50 for YMCA members and $75 for nonmembers. If space is available, late registration will be taken Nov. 6-12. There will be a $10 late fee. Practice for the league begins on Nov. 13 with the season starting on Dec. 2. Volunteer coaches and scorekeepers are needed for the league as well.
