Zoning board to consider requests for tiny houses as homeless shelters in Sumter

Sumter City-County Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 3 p.m. today in Sumter City Council Chambers, fourth floor of Sumter Opera House, 21 N. Main St., to consider:

- A request for a 25-foot variance from the required 100-foot setback to allow a 75-foot setback for the construction of a horse barn adjacent to an adjoining residential structure in the 4400 block of U.S. 15 South; and

- A request for a variance of 25 feet from the required 35-foot rear yard setback to allow a 10-foot rear setback for the construction of five tiny-house structures to be used as homeless shelters at 36 S. Artillery Drive. The applicant also requests a reduction in the number of required on-site parking spaces.
