A second victim has been named in the pedestrian-versus-vehicle wreck that occurred on Britton Road on Oct. 27.

Basir Wells, 12, of Sumter, died at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia from injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle on Britton Road on Sunday at about 6 a.m., according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

A 2020 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling east on Britton Road when it struck Wells, according to Cpl. David Jones with South Carolina Highway Patrol. The driver was uninjured, Jones said.

Wells' death is the second fatality from this wreck. Marvin Butler Jr., 15, was pronounced dead at the scene, Baker said.

Next of kin for Wells has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
