SIMPSONVILLE (AP) — Two people in South Carolina were charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of a 3-year-old girl.
Jerry Robinson, 34, and Ariel Robinson, 29, were arrested Tuesday for the death of Victoria Rose Smith of Simpsonville, according to Simpsonville Police arrest warrants obtained by news outlets.
She was pronounced dead at a hospital after police responded to a reference about an unresponsive child at a residence in the city Thursday, according to city spokesperson Justin Lee Campbell. Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans ruled her death a homicide by blunt-force injuries.
The relationship between the child and the Robinsons was not immediately clear. It also was not immediately clear if Jerry and Ariel Robinson had attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
Homicide by child abuse carries a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.
