2 killed, 3 wounded in late night shooting at Broad Street convenience store in Sumter

Two Sumter men were killed and three others wounded in a late night shooting at a Broad Street convenience store in Sumter.

Sumter Police Department officers responded to the Sunoco Hop In, 1083 Broad St., which is across the street from Mariachi's and next to the Sumter Mall, about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the agency’s public information officer, Tonyia McGirt. She said details are not immediately available about the incident or potential suspects but will be released later.

Both victims were 30 years old and from Sumter, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

Gregory Middleton, of White Street, was pronounced dead on scene. Michael Rogers, of Curtis Drive, died at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Both died from an apparent gunshot wound, Baker said.

Autopsies for both men are scheduled for Tuesday at MUSC in Charleston.

No information was given about the three others wounded in the incident.
