2 killed in Sumter in armed robbery attempt; up to $5,000 reward offered

Two Sumter residents were shot and killed in what Sumter Police Department is calling an attempted armed robbery.

According to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the department, police received a shots fired call about 10:15 p.m. Thursday and responded to the 300 block of Bowman Drive. Officers found Diego Alonzo Teletor, 25, of Loring Drive, shot and killed outside of the home. Gregorio Zarate Chun, 46, of Bowman Drive, was found shot and was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey, where he later died.

According to a news release, witnesses said the victims and others were standing outside of a residence when they were approached by three men wearing all black, who pulled out handguns, began firing and then fled toward Dogwood Street.

Family members of the victims have been notified, and autopsies have been scheduled by Sumter County Coroner's Office.

Up to a $5,000 reward is being offered for information that can lead to arrests according to McGirt. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at
