21 Clarendon residents arrested in drug investigation

Effort by several law enforcement entities yields 34 suspected drug dealers, 138 arrest warrants

MANNING - Twenty-one Clarendon County residents were arrested on Nov. 29 following a yearlong investigation into illegal drug activity throughout the county.

"We've been working for months on this," said Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley. "When people make complaints about drug activity, they may not see anything right away, but we begin following up on their information and working on it. It may take awhile, but we're definitely working on it."

The yearlong investigation that yielded 34 suspected drug dealers and 138 arrest warrants was led by the Clarendon County/Manning Police Department Narcotics Unit with assistance from the Williamsburg County and Sumter County Sheriff's Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The 21 arrests on Nov. 29 were made by the Narcotics Unit along with members of the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office, Manning Police Department and the South Carolina Department of Pardon, Probation and Parole. Thirteen individuals are still being sought.

Of the 21 arrests, only 10 remain behind bars as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Those arrested and who have bonded out of jail include:

Desmond Abraham, 40, of the Manning/Paxville area, who was arrested on two counts of distribution of crack cocaine-second offense, and two counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Cindy Calvin, 40, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of crack-first offense, distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park, distribution of methamphetamine-first offense and distribution of methamphetamine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Jamari Canty, 19, of Manning, who was arrested on three counts of distribution of marijuana;

Mantson Epps, 40, of Manning, who was arrested on three counts of distribution of crack cocaine, three counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park and one count of possession of crack cocaine-second offense;

Terrell Gibbs, 27, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of marijuana-first offense, distribution of marijuana within a half-mile of a school or park and conspiracy to distribute marijuana;

Jerel Hardy, 23, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of marijuana-first offense, distribution within a half-mile of a school or park and conspiracy to distribute marijuana;

Ricky Hicks, 47, of Manning, who was arrested on eight counts of distribution of crack cocaine-second offense and seven counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Joe Jackson Jr., 29, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine-third offense and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Marques Kennedy, 26, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of marijuana-first offense, distribution of marijuana within a half-mile of a school or park and conspiracy to distribute marijuana;

Curtis Lawson, 31, of Summerton, who was arrested on two counts of distribution of crack cocaine-second offense;

And, Toroney Tindal, 30, of Summerton, who was arrested on one count of distribution of crack cocaine-second offense.

Those individuals arrested and who remain behind bars include:

Bobby Butler, 63, of Alcolu, who was arrested on three counts of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense and three counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Saul Butler, 48, of New Zion, who was arrested on one count of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense;

Tyrone Cubbage, 58, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of crack cocaine-third offense and distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Kerry Doughty, 20, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of methamphetamine-first offense, distribution of methamphetamine within a half-mile of a school or park, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of marijuana-first offense and distribution of marijuana within a half-mile of a school or park;

Brandon Gibson, 28, Manning, who was arrested on three counts of distribution of crack cocaine, three counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park and one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine;

Moses Gibbs, 40, of Manning, who was arrested on five counts of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense and one count of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Jacuba Green, 38, of Summerton, who was arrested on two counts of distribution of crack cocaine-third offense and two counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park;

Denise Miller, 33, of Manning, who was arrested on one count of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense, one count of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park; four counts of distribution of marijuana-first offense, four counts of distribution of marijuana within a half-mile of a school or park and three counts of conspiracy to distribute marijuana;

Alonzo Richburg, 57, of Manning, who was arrested on single counts of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense, distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine;

And Keith Sumpter, 43, of Manning, who was arrested on three counts of distribution of crack cocaine-first offense and three counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or park.
