A 21-year-old Sumter man died and the driver was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday.

Hunter Christmas, of Biddle Road, was pronounced dead on the scene after a wreck occurring at 3:45 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 378 eastbound in Sumter County, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

Another 21-year-old was driving east in a 2005 GMC Yukon when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overturning several times, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

Jones said the driver was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

An autopsy was performed Monday at MUSC in Charleston, and the deceased's next of kin has been notified.

The coroner's office and highway patrol are investigating the incident.
