Three Dalzell residents were arrested and charged in August and October after a reported carjacking of a Sumter County resident in late August, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Two adults and a minor were charged after a call to Sumter County Dispatch that said a resident was forced from a car at gunpoint on Peach Orchard Road on Aug. 30 by a suspect who reportedly stole the car. The car's description was sent to county and city law enforcement.
The next day, Aug. 31, Sumter Police Department officers spotted a vehicle matching that description and chased it, with Sumter County Sheriff's Office deputies taking over the chase at 10:36 p.m. The vehicle stopped, and deputies detained a 16-year-old suspect as part of the investigation into the carjacking.
Sumter law enforcement continued the investigation, and Jahmell Dashawn Simon-Williams, 27, and Cierra Antionette Christian, 37, were both arrested and transported to Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. Christian is the mother of the juvenile, according to Bordeaux. Deputies determined Christian was trying to aid the juvenile before she was arresed.
The juvenile was charged with kidnapping, carjacking and criminal conspiracy. Simon-Williams was charged with kidnapping, carjacking, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, criminal conspiracy, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and person over 18 using a minor to commit violent crime. Christian was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony.
Simon-Williams' bond was denied, and Christian was released on a $20,000 surety bond. The juvenile was petitioned to Family Court.
