A 52-year-old man has been charged with shoplifting after reportedly drinking from a soft drink and leaving the open beverage on the convenience store shelf without paying for it.

Aaron David Loney is accused of taking an orange Fanta soda from a store in the 1300 block of Myrtle Beach Highway on July 9, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. The beverage was valued at $1.90.

He was supposedly seen taking the drink from the cooler, opening it, drinking from it and leaving it on a shelf before leaving the store, the sheriff's office stated according to a July 12 warrant.

He was arrested on Monday and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. Bond had not yet been set as of Monday afternoon.

Capt. Robert Burnish with the sheriff's office said Loney has at least two prior shoplifting convictions.
