Ages Antiques, a locally owned store selling antiques, gifts and curated finds, opened at its new location at 13 N. Main St. on Nov. 1, sharing a space with Naomi & Warner in downtown Sumter.
The dogs have already explored downtown, being spotted on the business' Facebook page in front of several local businesses on Main Street.
"I've always wanted a shop dog, and I don't feel like I could have a real one that's the size I'd want," store owner Karla Dickerson said.
Too many items to connect a dog in an antique store to a bull in a china shop.
Dickerson has been a collector and interested in antiques and refurbishing used items since her pre-teen years, tapping into "an appreciation for old things" and the "skill of the craftsman."
She said she enjoys collecting porcelain items and loves wood and furniture.
"It's a passion I guess I've always had. My parents loved it," she said. "Maybe it's genetic."
After getting into the business in 1989, she had been open on Guignard for almost the last decade after being part of a co-op shop in Summerton.
Her store offers a mix of old and new, everything from preserved antiques to refurbished mid-century pieces.
Dickerson said there will be extended hours for the holidays, which will be posted on Instagram and Facebook.
