Aleane Jenkins Martin was born on May 14, 1943, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Edward Delany and Rosnea Jenkins. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, after a long term of illness.

Aleane attended the public schools of Lee County. She made her living by working at VB Williams, where she worked until she became ill. At an early age, she joined Mt. Olive AME Church. She was a member of the adult choir and the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Mary Jenkins of Alexandria, Virginia, Bertha Leonard and Janie Mae Martin of Sumter; two sons, Joe Jenkins and Marion Martin Jr. of Sumter; two sisters, Ammie Anderson of Sumter and Irene Jenkins of Illinois; three brothers, Jason Jenkins of Newark, New Jersey, Edward Jenkins of Brooklyn, New York, and Robert Lee Edward of Sumter; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special goddaughter, Letha Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 4823 Rodgwin Road, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. R.L. Brown, pastor of Mt. Olive AME Church, officiating.

The processional will leave the home at 12:20 p.m.

Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Woodrow.
