Alexander Johnson Jr., 62, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

Born on Dec. 26, 1955, in Clarendon County, he was the eldest son of the late Alex and Mary A. Burgess Johnson, the grandson of the late Dais F. and Lydia Witherspoon Burgess, and Charlie and Emma B. Johnson. He attended public schools in District 17 and District 2 of Sumter County. His high school endeavors were football, marching band and bus driver. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 and, after years of service to his country, he received an honorable discharge. Alexander was known as "Apple Jack" during his career as a tractor trailer operator for Burlington Trucking Co., Mickens Trucking Co., Burgess and Brogdon Cement Co., where he retired. He attended Oak Grove AME Church in his early years, where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Tonya V. Johnson of Paterson, New Jersey; a son, Alexander Johnson III and Chris (Antoinette) Johnson, who he took as a son, both of Sumter; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lydia J. (George) Mickens of Dalzell and Lillarweise J. (Joe) Seymore of Sumter; two brothers, Wayne Johnson and Clarence Johnson, both of Sumter; two uncles, Henry Johnson and Wesley Johnson, both of Brooklyn, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 2500 Brogdon Circle, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Oak Grove AME Church, 271 Burnt Branch Road, Olanta, with the Rev. Oliver Davis, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter.
