A local church's annual community prayer event will return next week before the start of the school year.
After canceling last year's event because of the coronavirus pandemic, Sumter's Alice Drive Baptist Church will pray once again for students and teachers at the 20th School Prayer Walk on Aug. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to noon before the first day of school on Aug. 17.
Participants will gather at the church, 1305 Loring Mill Road, and split into teams to pray at different schools, public and private, in Sumter County, according to Bobby Owens, communications director at the church.
