Alice E. Rembert Nathaniel, 87, departed this earthly life and entered her eternal rest on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at her home.
Born Sept. 28, 1931, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie and Mary Bracey Rembert. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was a lifelong member of St. Paul AME Church-Shaw, where she was a Sunday school teacher, worked with the junior ushers, member of the senior usher board and the Women Missionary Society. She loved her church and church family and served faithfully until her health declined. She was also a member of the Delaine Center Senior Program, where she enjoyed socializing and playing bingo.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Linda N. Jackson and Pamela Nathaniel (Melvin); three sons, Samuel L. Nathaniel, Walter (Carrie) Nathaniel and Dwayne M. Nathaniel, all of Sumter; three brothers, James (Gloria) Rembert of New Jersey, George (Dorothy) Rembert of Connecticut and John Rembert Jr. of Sumter; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two goddaughters; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 1026 Farmers Circle, Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul AME Church - Shaw, 1495 N. St. Paul Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Eric R. Dent, pastor, eulogist.
The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.
The funeral procession will leave at 2:20 p.m. from the home.
Burial will be at St. Paul AME Church - Shaw Cemetery.
