ALMA SINGLETON-JACKSON

Alma Singleton-Jackson, 79, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born Aug. 31, 1939, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Edward T. and Rebecca Sherard Singleton. She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. Alma received Christ as her Savior early in life and joined Wayman Chapel AME Church, where she was a lifelong member and sang with the Jubilee Choir as well as served as an usher an stewardess.

She met and married the late James "Josh" Jackson for 60 years. They were blessed with two children.

Precious memories will be cherished by a daughter, Vernell Singleton-Deas of Alexandria, Virginia; a son, James Jackson Jr. of Columbia; two grandchildren, Victoria Deas of Alexandria and Brandon Osborne of the home; four sisters, Wilhelmenia Anderson, Earlean Shannon of Wedgefield, Mary Fraiser of Laurel, Maryland, and Louise Hayden of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Mariah Rivers of Bronx, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 1295 Fellow Lane, Sumter.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Wayman Chapel AME Church, 160 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton Jr., pastor, eulogist, the Rev. Charlie S. Howard presiding.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until time of service.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Wayman Chapel AME Churchyard cemetery.
