Anna Dora Clarkson was born on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1944, in Sumter, to the late Sarah B. Brunson and Marion Brunson Sr. She departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, June 10, 2019, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sumter.

Anna Dora attended Ebenezer High School in Dalzell. At an early age, she joined Mt. Olive AME Church of Woodrow, where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. Anna also was a faithful member of the Burrows Mission Unit as well as a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, both of Sumter.

Her loving memories are cherished by: two children and their children, Julia Clarkson of Hartsville (Z’eria Missouri, TyTiaunnia Thompson and Charles J. Thompson) and Sheryl (Chris) Tention of Sumter (Christina, Mary, Robert and Robynn Tention); seven sisters, Lelia Brunson and Sallie Tention, both of Brooklyn, New York, Sarah McDaniel and Ruth Ann McClary, both of Sumter, Annie Shaw of Dalzell, Martha Ferrer and Louise Albert, both of New York; six brothers, Marion Brunson Jr. of Blackville, Matthew B. Rufus and James (Dorothy) Dow, both of Sumter, Robert Dow, Thomas Dow and Wilson (Verna) Dow, all of Columbia; one special nephew, Reynolds McDonald; along with other nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Clarkson; grandparents, Sallie B. Rufus and Frank Rufus; an aunt, Bertha Knox; and an uncle, James Rufus.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Clarkson will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Monday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Mt. Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Sumter, SC 29153 with the Rev. Dr. Friendly Gadson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends at 5505 Raymond Jenkins St., Sumter, SC 29153.
