Annie Jane Hollifield McJunkin, widow of John H. McJunkin, died on Friday, June 12, 2020, at her home.

Born on Oct. 20, 1935, in Transylvania County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Luther Elvin and Mary Matilda Hollifield. Ann married her childhood sweetheart, John Henry McJunkin, on Nov. 9, 1956, at Grace Baptist Church in Brevard, North Carolina. They lived in numerous countries and states throughout John's Air Force career. In 1973, John was assigned to Shaw Air Force Base, and Ann began working at Hillcrest High School in Dalzell as the guidance department secretary. She worked at Hillcrest through all four of her children's high school years.

Early in her career at Hillcrest, she became known to the students as "Momma Mac." She loved all of her Hillcrest "kids" as if they were her own, and they always knew that they could go to her for help with almost anything. Although she didn't have a child play as a member of the football team, the players actually voted her "the loudest mom in the stands" during one of the high school football seasons. When Crestwood High School was built, Ann went to work there as the registrar. She was employed by Sumter School District 2 for more than 20 years.

Ann was a longtime member of Hickory Road Baptist Church. For many years, she worked with Sumter Citizens for Life as an advocate for unborn children.

Anyone who knew Ann would tell you that she loved the Lord, coffee, all babies, antique shopping, going to yard sales, the Washington Redskins, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, camping and the North Carolina mountains. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include one son, John Michael McJunkin and his wife, Laurie, of Sumter; three daughters, Faris A. Dale and her husband, Richard B. Dale Jr., of Odin, Illinois, Jennifer McJunkin Marchman of Sumter and Sandra L. Holbert and her husband, Richard H. Holbert Jr., of Sumter; 10 grandchildren, Shannon and Bryan Blochberger of Jacksonville, Florida, Christopher and Kelli Dale of Florence, Ryan Bagnal of Sarasota, Florida, Maria Chandler of Sumter, Rebecca McJunkin of Elgin, Patricia and Chris Lynch of McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, Cheyenne and Bobby Harper of Dalzell, Sean and Ruth Marchman of Columbia, Virginia and Josh Bryant of Centralia, Illinois, and Shayne McJunkin of Sumter; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Dale, Madison Blochberger, Kristin Blochberger, Davis Dale, Lachlan McJunkin, Gabriel Chandler and Atticus Bryant; one brother, John Hollifield of Tallahassee, Florida; a brother-in-law, Charles McJunkin of Lincolnton, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Medora Knight of Lincolnton and Bernice Nix of Charlotte, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Vernon Hollifield; and a sister, Martha Kate Hollifield Reynolds.

The family wishes to thank her Amedisys Hospice care team, Meredith Myers, Amy Knowlton, Shawnaree Walker and Angela Scott, as well as her longtime physician, Dr. John Fleming, for the loving care they provided to Ann.

Memorial donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or lbda.org.

A private graveside service will be held Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
