Annie Lee Diggs McCoy, 82, departed this life on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home.

Born on April 14, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William Crawford Diggs and Aurelia Meta Slater Diggs. A God-fearing woman, she summed up life in one simple phrase, "Keep your hand in God's hand." Annie was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in several ministries prior to her declining health. Educated in the Sumter County public school system, Annie Lee was a graduate of Ebenezer High School. She worked as a supervisor at Manchester Farms for many years prior to taking a position as a teacher's aide at Oakland Elementary School. She continued to work several years in the Sumter County School District, until she reached retirement.

Annie Lee leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, LaWanda Y. McCoy of the home, Cherlyn V. (Darryl) Keith of Sumter, Conneolia C. (James) Covington of Rembert and Sheila R. (Daniel) Singleton of Lexington; six sons, Calvin L. (Cherlyn) McCoy of Gaston, George P. (Brenda) McCoy of Fayetteville, North Carolina, William B. McCoy of the home, Isaac J. (Keisha) McCoy of Rembert, Thaddeus L. (Sherry) Diggs and Joe Julius of Newark, New Jersey. She also helped rear two nephews, Robert R. (Rochristor) Byrd of Brandywine, Maryland, and Frank C. (Maggie) Byrd of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee Diggs, Minnie Lee Diggs, Mary Diggs and Bertha McCoy; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Suzanne Spence of Miami and Connie Bolden of Rembert; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Due to the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church, 3285 Peach Orchard Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Richard Addison officiating, eulogist.
