Graveside services for Annie Mae Fleming Carter will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Unionville AME Church with the Rev. Alvin Webb officiating.

The public may view today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Palmer Memorial Chapel in Sumter. Social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Annie Mae Fleming Carter, wife of Robert Foster Carter Jr., departed this earthly life on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia.

She was born in Sumter, the only daughter of the late Willie and Eva Butler Fleming. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. After uniting in holy matrimony, she joined her husband at Unionville African Methodist Episcopal Church, St. Charles. There, she faithfully served in the following capacities: Women's Missionary Society, Steward Board, president of the Fifth Sunday Choir, annual Christmas Pageant coordinator; Pastor's Aide; first, third and fourth Sunday Choir Member, Children's Ministry and Daughters of Sarah. Ann was voted 2012 Woman of the Year and Adult Lay Person of the Year - Unionville AME Church 2006. Ann was a member of Delaine Community Center and The Golden Girls of Sumter. She was a graduate of Ebenezer High School Class of 1964 and an attendee of Sumter Area Technical College. She was employed by Campbell Soup (later Pilgrim's Pride) for many years before retiring in 2008.

Surviving are her loving husband, Robert F. Carter Jr.; two devoted daughters, Shirley (Ray) Goodman and Robin E. Carter; a loving son, Jamie L. Carter; two stepchildren, Jacqueline (Same) Session and Robert Tyrone Carter; and six grandchildren, Phylicia Goodman, Spec. Jared Goodman, Jalynn R. Carter, Eva Joi Carter, Samoria Session and Erin Carter.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Residence, 1881 Stamey Livestock Road.
