Around Town: Cars and Coffee to be held Saturday

The Sumter County Recreation Department is accepting registrations through Friday, May 26, for youth ages 5-12 (proof of age required) for the 2023 Summer Enrichment Program. The program will be held 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. June 5-July 14 at the following locations: Catchall-Shaw Community Center, Cherryvale Community Center, DeLaine Community Center, Eastern Community Center, Ebenezer Community Center, Rembert-Rafting Creek Community Center, Salterstown Community Center and Shiloh Community Center. Cars and Coffee Sumter will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, at Gamecock Lanes, 817 Broad St. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. Coffee, water and donuts will be available - first come, first served. Donations will benefit Helping South Carolina Inc.

The Mary Hinson Standard Flower Show, sponsored by the Council of Garden Clubs of Sumter Inc., will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 27, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at the Alice Boyle Garden Center, 842 W. The 50th World Invitational Double Dutch Championship will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday-Saturday, June 8-10, at the Sumter County Civic Center, 700 W. Liberty St. Admission is free. Participating teams: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington, D.C. Each team will compete for world championships in their respective grade levels. T-shirts and other souvenir items will be available for purchase.

Backcountry Brews, presented by the Sumter County Museum and Sumter Original Brewery, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at 122 N. Washington St. Learn all about beer brewing, past and present, while enjoying beer samples, barbecue and live music. This event is for age 21 and older. Limited tickets available.
