MANNING - Lifting the spirits of people of local businesses and civic organizations was the inspiration behind the Azalea Garden Club's recent community beautification project.

"Our club delivered 36 arrangements," said club member Wanda Johnson. "Our club was especially excited this year to lift the spirits of our citizens as we all begin to open our doors back up in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Club member Marie Land and her granddaughter, Bitzy Land, delivered an arrangement to Weldon Auditorium.

"We love doing this," Land said. "I'm enjoying spending the time with my granddaughter, too. It's just our way of thanking different businesses and organizations for all they do for the community."

The Azalea Garden Club's project was also done in conjunction with National Garden Club Week, which is held during the first week in June. Garden clubs from across the nation participated in a variety of beautification projects, education of environmental efforts and community involvement to celebrate the annual event.
