BARBARA ANN S. BLACKSHEAR

Barbara Ann Scott Blackshear was born on Nov. 21,1944, in Sumter County, the oldest child of Sam Claud and Clarence Edith McFadden Scott. Barbara departed this life on Friday, March 27, 2020, at MUSC Health in Florence.

A product of the Lee County public schools, Barbara graduated in 1962 from Mount Pleasant High School. She received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Morris College in Sumter and a master's degree in education from Kean College in Union, New Jersey. She did additional studies at Kean to complete her superintendent certification.

Loving and precious memories of her life will be cherished by her husband, Clyde; son, Derrick; two brothers, William Claude Scott of Elliott and Clarance Eugene (Nadine) Scott of Lynchburg; a sister, Sylvia A. Scott of Bishopville; three granddaughters, Basha D'Shawn Blackshear of Roanoke, Virginia, Brianna Jasmine Blackshear of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Shanea Johnson of Newark, New Jersey; three grandsons, Chance Derrell Blackshear and Isaiah Johnson, both of Roanoke, and Kevon Cupitt of Newark; an adopted grandson, Elliott Rivera also of Newark; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Clyde Samuel Blackshear III aka "Shawn/Raboo."

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

The family will celebrate her life Saturday morning at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150. Interment will follow at St. Paul UMC Cemetery in Elliott.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
