BARBARA NIEMEYER REED

Barbara "Bobbie" Niemeyer Reed, age 76, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late George Nathan Niemeyer and Virginia McIntosh Niemeyer. Barbara graduated from Edmunds High School in 1963, then went on to the University of South Carolina, where she received her bachelor's degree. She then furthered her studies at Frances Marion University, where she received her master's degree in arts. Barbara served her community as a middle school art teacher in Sumter for more than 30 years. Barbara enjoyed going to the beach, and she loved all her animals. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church. Barbara was a wonderful mother and friend to everyone. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Leigh DuRant Reed; a granddaughter, Virginia "GiGi" Leigh Joyce and her lifelong special friend, Nancy Alderman Mims, all of Sumter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Miriam Virginia Reed and Barbara Ann Reed.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Sumter Cemetery with Dr. Steve Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be James Paul Mims, Edward Eugene McIntosh, Joseph Chandler Ortmann, James Bentham Walker Reed, Thomas Center Reed Jr. and Richard Reed Watts.
