BELVA STEWART HICKSON

Belva Stewart Hickson, 81, wife of 63 years to Thomas "Tommy" Anderson Hickson, died on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on June 17, 1941, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late James Robert "Jim" Stewart and Ruth Rodgers Stewart. Belva blessed many with her gift of hospitality. She was a faithful and active member of Crosspoint Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees, and was the first female deacon. She retired from Sumter School District 17.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Nanette "Nan" Hickson Burns (Chris) of North Augusta, Gaye Hickson Walthall (Phillip) of Vincennes, Indiana, and Angela Hickson Peters (Ryan) of Sumter; and grandchildren, Kayla Burns, Jacob Burns (Ginny), Bailey Walthall, Mackenzie Walthall, Joshua Peters (Farrel) and Austin Peters (Lauren Elizabeth).

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew David Burns; a brother, James William Stewart; and two sisters, Sarah Stewart Hobbs and Betty Stewart Ardis.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Crosspoint Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Simpson, the Rev. John Sorrells and the Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Peters, Austin Peters, Jacob Burns, Todd Ardis, Randy Shirley and Darren Shirley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Beatson Sr. and Johnny McAllister.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2275 Garrison St.
