Benjamin F. Cook, 65, departed this life on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at his home.

Born on Sept. 21, 1953, in Raeford, North Carolina, he was a son of the late David and Ruth N. Whitted Cook. He later moved to New York City, where he was educated and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. He worked at Price Bottom Department Store in Jamaica Queens, New York, as head of security. He was employed and retired from the Long Island Railroad, where he worked as an electrician.

He is survived by his children, Benjamin Cook, Darren Gross and Eve N. (Glenn) Mack; three granddaughters; sisters, Juliet Parson, Evangelist Barbara Richardson and Cheryl Cook; brothers, Charles Cook, David Cook Jr. and James Cook; his ex-wife, Edith C. Gayle; and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 311 Kingsbury Drive, Sumter.

Wake services will be held from 11 a.m. to noon today followed by funeral services at noon at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Evangelist Barbara Richardson officiating, eulogist.

The funeral procession will leave at 11:20 a.m. from the home.
