Bernie Pringle Sr. transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at Springdale Healthcare Center, Camden.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1919, to the late Edmund Wells and Louise Pringle. Bernie was the last of his siblings. He worked at Thomas and Howard Food Industry as a truck driver.

Bernie married the love of his life, Pearl, on Sept. 22, 1941. She preceded him in 2016. To this union, seven children were born, Louis Pringle (died at 6 months), Bernie Pringle Jr. (Polly) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Robert Lee Pringle (Lauretha) of Sumter, Beverly Pringle Baker (widow) of Sumter, Georgia Walls (widow) of Columbia, Doris McCants of Dallas, Texas, and Bruce Pringle (Jan) of Greenville.

He joined the United States Army on May 3, 1945, and was issued a World War II Victory Ribbon. He worked as a hospital orderly. On Aug. 14, 1946, he was discharged as a private first class at Fort George Meade in Maryland. He received an honorable discharge.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his six children; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was a dedicated member of Congruity Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was the father of the church.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 595 Arlington Road, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Congruity Presbyterian Church USA, 3750 Congruity Road, Gable, with the Rev. Alonza A. Washington, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Congruity Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
