Betty Ann Thames Hatchell, 82, of Mount Pleasant, widow of Manton James Hatchell, died on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.

Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting St. Entombment followed at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family received friends at the church from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.

Betty Ann was born on May 21, 1936, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Frank Allison Thames and Edna Johnson Thames. She graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter and attended Baptist College of Charleston. Betty Ann was a Sunday school teacher and taught kindergarten at First Baptist Church School in Charleston, where she was a member of the Nonie Wilson Sunday School Class. She was also the former owner of Betty Ann's Ladies Apparel and member of the Mount Pleasant Women's Club and Shem Creek Sisterhood Bridge Club.

She is survived by three children, son, Michael J. Hatchell and his wife, Pamela, of Hobe Sound, Florida, Lynda H. Miller and her husband, Douglas, of Mount Pleasant and Karen H. Carlin of Mount Pleasant; four grandsons, Jared James Hatchell and his wife, Rhiannon, and their daughter, Cassandra, Jordan James Hatchell, George Patrick Carlin III and James Hamilton Carlin; three brothers, Frank Allison Thames, Pete Thames and Randy Thames; and one sister, Jennifer T. Kolb.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Thames; and her sisters, Carolyn L. Cody, Dorothy T. Cockerill, Gladys T. Timmons and Preto Thames.
