Betty C. Dwyer, 83, was born on March 15, 1935, in Sumter County, to the late Doctor "Dock" and Sarah Williams Clavon. She died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

She attended the public schools of Sumter County. Betty retired in 1995 from Tuomey Hospital. Early in life, Betty accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, until her health begin to fail. Betty was a generous individual who loved to care for children and people throughout the community.

She leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Hallie (Teresa) Dwyer of Quincy, Florida, Leroy (Gwendolyn) Dwyer of Pinewood, Loretta (Willie) Shaw of Columbia, Gail (Lee) Wilson and Toney Dwyer of Sumter; one sister, Mary Ann Green of Sumter; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Bazemore; a granddaughter, Erica Dwyer; a great-grandson, King Shaw; four sisters, Ollie McLeod, Sarah Blyther, Wilburt Davis and Annie Mae James; and two brothers, Dock Clavon Jr. and Cyrus Clavon.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Dwyer will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 126 E. Sumter St., Mayesville, SC 29104 with the Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor, eulogist and Dr. Tiawana Mayo officiating. Interment will follow at Mayesville Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. at 214 Brown St. Sumter, SC 29150.
