BETTY IRENE THOMPSON PRESCOTT

Betty Irene Thompson Prescott, 89, widow of Arthur Joel Prescott, died Monday, April 21, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born Jan. 18, 1936, in Horatio, she was a daughter of the late Walter James Thompson and Irene Allen Thompson. Mrs. Prescott was a member of Smithville Pentecostal Holiness Church. She retired from the accounting department at Sumter County Department of Social Services. Mrs. Prescott enjoyed cruising. She also loved and enjoyed her family and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include three children, Tami Jo Nix (Michael), Rex S. Prescott (Loretta) and Stacy Prescott Harrington (Thomas); six grandchildren, John Michael Nix, Stacy Nicole Moysakis, Scotty Harrington, Stephanie Nix Hudson, Samantha Kay Williams and Shelby Jo Geddings; four great-grandchildren, Reagan Adele Moysakis, Rylie Mae Moysakis, Shelby Elizabeth “Ellie” Harrington and Waylon Thomas Geddings; two sisters, May Lineberger and Kay Sprowls (Rick); three brothers, John Thompson (Susie), Tommy Thompson (Sandy) and Charlie Thompson (Gloria); and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Kay Harrington; brothers, Jimmy Thompson, Billy Thompson and Frank Thompson; and a sister, Ruth Richburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Morris and the Rev. Ellison Evans. Burial will be in Brunson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rex Prescott, Michael Nix, Thomas Harrington, John Michael Nix, Scotty Harrington and Jimmy Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 121 Cromer Drive.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
