Betty Lou Johnson Hurley Hunter, 84, wife of Alton M. Hunter, died on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at her home.

Born in Bladen County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Albert Johnson and Alma Taylor Johnson. Mrs. Hunter was of the Jehovah Witness faith and was retired from the food industry, where she owned and operated a restaurant in North Carolina.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; three stepchildren, Kay Walters (Jeff), Alton M. Hunter Jr. (Debbie) and Terry L. Hunter (Sylvia); three sisters, Mary Miller and Joyce Kahl (Richard), both of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Jean Cheney (John) of Cary, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Heather Savage, Gary Savage (Angie), Brandon Hurley and Justin Klenke (Jasmine); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Cliff Hurley; and a daughter, Denise Savage Jones.
