Betty Louise Edwards Generette, 66, was born on April 3, 1954, in Sumter, to the late James and Jessie M. Richardson Edwards. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Betty, as she was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Sumter County, graduating with the Class of 1973 from Sumter High School. Upon graduating, she worked as a teacher's aide at Willow Drive Elementary School and was a bus driver for Sumter School District 17. At an early age, Betty accepted Jesus into her life and became a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, where she served diligently with many organizations. In 1994, she joined Joshua Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A.D. Dennis, where she served with the senior missionary ministry, ushers ministry, pastor aide, calendar rally and sang with the senior choir. She was a dedicated and faithful member. She also visited St. John Baptist Church, where she sang songs of praises and prayed prayers, lifting up the name of Jesus. She will be missed dearly.

Her memories will be cherished in the life of her husband, Sammie Lee Generette; her daughters, Tonya and Sandra; her son, Michael (Hershell); two special sons, Christopher and Joshua McCoy, whom she help raised; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie S. Wilder and Gracie A. Prince; two brothers, Jesse (Nhin) and Roosevelt (Brenda) Edwards, all of Sumter; two aunts; one uncle; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitations at the home, 3 Shuler Drive, Sumter.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Friday at Joshua Missionary Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene Dennis, pastor, officiating.

The procession will leave the home at 11:20 a.m.
