BEULAH R. GREEN
On Friday, May 13, 2022, our beloved Beulah R. Green, who was affectionately known as "Reebie," ascended to her heavenly home with the Lord Jesus Christ. Beulah was born on Oct. 15, 1945, in Sumter County, and was the oldest daughter of the late Sam and Henrietta Baker. She attended school in Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School in 1964. Upon graduating from high school, she left South Carolina and resided in Ohio, New York and New Jersey. After the unexpected death of her late husband, Gerald, she returned to South Carolina to raise her sons.
During her early walk in Christian faith, Beulah was a dedicated and active member at Quinn Chapel AME Church of Sumter, where she served in the following capacities: president of the usher board and as a member of the adult gospel choir. She was a God-fearing woman, who never wavered in her faith. Beulah was an active member of Pride of Sumter T.E.N.T - 178 organization since January 2008, where she was a part of the building committee. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star.
Beulah let her light shine through various acts of care, love and devotion, whether she cared for those who did not have the means to care for themselves or exhibited strength in times of turmoil and chaos. Beulah was a devoted mother to her four sons and continuously supported them with love and admiration. She always opened her home to anyone and if there was something on the stove, you were more than welcome to a plate.
Beulah worked in the food services department for the District 17 school system, from which she retired after working more than 25 years. Retirement did not last long as she decided to seek part-time employment at National Healthcare in the dietary department. After working for National Healthcare for several years, she officially retired and began baking her famous cinnamon rolls by the dozens, which was her passion. Baking, for Beulah, was never about the money, instead it was more about making people happy.
Although Beulah has now taken the stairways to heaven, she leaves her legacy and memories in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her three sons, Anthony (Alice) Green of Sumter, Timothy (Jacquelyn) Green of Fairburn, Georgia, and Craig Green of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Moses (Clara) Baker of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Albertus (Delores) Baker of Clinton, Maryland, Loretta Baker of Sumter and John (Edna) Baker of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Nora Lane Benbow of Manning and Beverly Pringle Baker of Sumter; one brother-in-law, Blease Herman (Ruth) Green of Florida; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home, 55 Mickens St., Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Samuel A. Temoney, eulogist, and Pastor Sonya Temoney presiding.
The procession will leave the home at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter.
