Billy "Bill" Kent Edgeworth, widower of Ruth Elizabeth Cave Wilkinson Edgeworth, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born Sept. 14, 1939, in Lake City, he was a son of the late Otto Billy Edgeworth and Minnie Alma Barrow Edgeworth. Billy was a graduate of Edmunds High School. Subsequently, he served in the U.S. Army as an electrical engineer, communications specialist (crypto telephoney) and sharp-shooter. After his stint in the Army, Mr. Edgeworth earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, church clerk, Sunday school teacher, usher and counter. Ruth and he were members of the Celebration Singers seniors' group. Due to his love of music, he was also a member of the Sumter Civic Chorale. Mr. Edgeworth was a member of the Sumter Lions Club where he twice served as club president and was recognized as Lion of the Year twice. Bill retired from Blazer Financial Services after serving in the finance business for many years. He was an avid philatelist; other hobbies included coin and post card collecting and membership in a local ham radio group. Bill and Ruth enjoyed traveling and danced every chance they got.

Survivors include a daughter, Tilda "Til" Wilkinson Morisey (Stephen) of Florence; a son, Edward Brooks Wilkinson Jr. (Shannan) of Sumter; two granddaughters, Nina Melisa Davis Whorton (Josh) of Florence and Leah Beth Wilkinson Daly (fianc , Dave McCauley) of Charlotte; a grandson, Dakota Brooks Wilkinson of Sumter; and four great-grandchildren, Maclane Joshua Whorton, John Luke Daly, River Grace Daly and Cassidy Pearl McCauley.

Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Dan Barber, assisted by Pastor Ron Bower of Sumter First Church of God. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will also receive guests at the home at 9 Ellen Drive, Sumter, following the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Bird, Dr. Marion Davis Jr., Dave McCauley, Stephen Morisey, Jim Prosser, Josh Whorton and Dakota Wilkinson.
