BILLY N. SHORTER SR.

Billy N. Shorter Sr., 80, husband of the late Carolyn Wade Shorter, died on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on June 8, 1939, in the Davis Station community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Rufus Nathaniel Shorter and Camilla Tennant Shorter McLeod. Billy enjoyed working at Black River Electric Coop. and later at Grace Baptist Church. He was the former owner of Billy's Florist Shop in Sumter.

Survivors include a daughter, Kris Anne Steele; two grandchildren, Jordan Gabriel Rock and Alyssa Grace Steele; a brother, Charles W. Shorter; a daughter-in-law, Pam Shorter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy N. "Nick" Shorter Jr.; and siblings, James William Shorter, Joan Shorter Smith, Mary Lou Shorter Mims, Tommie Robert "Bobby" Shorter, Jueline Shorter Ward, Roy Elliott Shorter and Susie Mae Shorter Lowder.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Davis Station with Wayne McElveen officiating.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
