If you're interested in tasting good food while receiving fellowship in an inviting church setting where you can also hear from a former Black Hawk Down ranger, you might want to consider attending Wild Game Night at First Baptist Church on Monday.

Pre-event festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., with food served at 6:30 p.m. in a buffet-line style.

"We'll have six different lines," First Baptist Church men's group and Wild Game Night Committee member Pat Sears said. "We'll serve 750 to 1,000 people in about 20 minutes."

Food at the event will feature alligator, chicken, seafood, flounder, frog legs, catfish, wild boar, quail, duck, rabbit and squirrel.

"We'll have every kind of wild game you can imagine," Sears said. "It's unique because all of our guys are volunteers and (serve food) cooked the day of."

Around 7 p.m., the event will move to the gym, where a band will perform before guest speaker Jeff Struecker addresses patrons. Struecker, a former U.S. Army Ranger, was involved in the events on which the film "Black Hawk Down" was based. He is also a pastor and author of "The Road to Unafraid."

"He has an interesting message that will capture the guys' attention," Sears said. "I've heard him before; time passed, and I didn't realize it. Most guys can visualize themselves in his shoes (and he'll tell about his situation) and how he handled it. He'll capture the attention and the hearts of the guys, and (he'll provide) thoughts (on their) walk with God."

There will also be door prizes at the event, including rods and reels, knives and name-brand coolers. The grand prize will be a 5,000-watt Honda generator.

Tickets are on sale at the church. For more information, visit www.fbcsumter.org.
